6 teams who should make bold moves at the deadline

1. Boston Celtics

Trade: Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce

Look for: Young, solid players and draft picks

An era has, indeed, ended in Boston and this is the perfect time to start rebuilding anew. A man not known to be afraid to pull the trigger, Danny Ainge should do just the same this deadline and ship his veterans to start all over.

If Ainge can convince Kevin Garnett to waive his no-trade clause, the Celtics might just get two young and promising players in Eric Bledsoe and DeAndre Jordan in return. Boston can then send Paul Pierce to either the Atlanta Hawks (for Josh Smith) or to the Utah Jazz (for Paul Millsap) to further help the rebuild.

Building around the core of Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley, Bledsoe, Jordan and Smith/Millsap would definitely be better than staying with their aging current group that seemed to have the first round as its ceiling.

2. Los Angeles Clippers

Trade: Eric Bledsoe, DeAndre Jordan

Look for: Kevin Garnett

Unlike the Celtics, the Clippers need to make a big move or two come the deadline to strengthen their chances for a championship this season. Los Angeles is clearly in win-now mode and anything short of an appearance in the conference finals would be a huge disappointment.

Fishing Garnett from Boston would be a huge coup for the Clippers' front office, as KG would not only help improve Los Angeles' defense but will also be an additional positive voice in the locker room, not to mention that he can mentor Blake Griffin, who's nearly as explosive as he was 15 years ago.

A deal for Millsap or Al Jefferson makes sense, too, as the Clippers attempt to complete the championship puzzle that has eluded them since their inception.

3. Milwaukee Bucks

Trade: Brandon Jennings or Monta Ellis

Look for: Josh Smith or a star who wants to play in MIL long-term

With their offensive-minded backcourt in danger of leaving after this season, the Bucks need to make a move quick.

Though he hasn't been playing at All-Star levels like he did in Golden State, Monta Ellis is quite sure to opt out of his contract after 2012-13 while Brandon Jennings' rookie contract expires and he'll be a restricted free agent come summer.

Latest reports say Milwaukee is pursuing a trade for Smith, who seems to be the hottest commodity in the market today. If these are true, then the Bucks can ink the deal and send Ellis for Smith, who has stated in an interview that he would be interested in playing with either Ellis or Jennings (or both) if he ends up in Milwaukee.

4. Atlanta Hawks

Trade: Josh Smith

Look for: Young, solid players and draft picks

Unrestricted free-agent to-be Josh Smith has show no intention that he will re-sign with the Hawks, leaving Atlanta with no option but to explore trades for their enigmatic forward.

Based on earlier reports, Smith would stay with the Hawks if they're able to pry best-friend Dwight Howard away from the Lakers in free agency or if they could be able to facilitate a trade for the big man.

However, devoid of young assets and high draft picks to be paired with Al Horford in a deal (plus the fact that Howard has shown an inclination for bright lights in a big city) make it impossible for Atlanta to swing a trade that Smith wants.

Nevertheless, expect Smith to be traded away, especially now that the Hawks are not in serious contention. Like Boston, the first round will be their ceiling. Then again, finding takers for Smith isn't hard. What's hard is not letting him go away for a deal that's worth a dime on a dollar.

5. Utah Jazz

Trade: Paul Millsap, Al Jefferson

Look for: Young, solid playmaker, wingman and backup big man

With four high-quality big men and no quality young playmaker in their fold, the Jazz have been looking for trade partners for either Al Jefferson or Paul Millsap since the season began.

The best deal could be one that involves Bledsoe (see Clippers above), a young, explosive point guard who will definitely be the future at the spot. Who LA sends in to match salaries (Caron Butler or DeAndre Jordan, maybe?) remains to be seen, but this is one deal that Utah should definitely pursue.

Trading Jefferson, likewise, would be good, too, if they can get in a solid wingman plus a backup big that would solidify their chances of contending not just for the eighth seed, but for the top spot in the near future.

6. Phoenix Suns

Trade: Everyone

Look for: Young, solid players and draft picks

The Suns took a wild gamble in the offseason, signing a slew of average players with mid-sized contracts in the hope that this group will help them contend for, at least, the playoffs.

Lo and behold, Phoenix is just about the worst team in the Western Conference right now and with a high draft pick waiting in the wings, it is time to blow it all up for this once-proud franchise.

Deal Mike Beasley. Deal Marcin Gortat. Deal Luis Scola. Deal Jared Dudley. Deal Goran Dragic. Deal everyone and start all over again. This is the time for the Suns' top brass to do something they have tried to fend off, albeit unsuccessfully, over the past four years: rebuild.
