Crazy Draft huh?

Your team got who you expected? Left disappointed? Worry not, they may have not picked the player you thought best-suited for them, but we’ll try to give you a view of why they did so, except the Raptors. That was totally uncalled for.

Cleveland Cavaliers

Took: Andrew Wiggins, Joe Harris

Draft grade: A

Cavs went the sure way of adding Wiggins as an off-ball operator and athletic wing defender. God knows how high his ceiling is.

Milwaukee Bucks

Took: Jabari Parker, Johnny O’Bryant

Draft grade: A+

They get what they wanted. A pair of forwards heavier than current starter John Henson, imagine what a Parker-Antetokounpo pairing can do up front. That’s devastating length to contend with.

Philadelphia 76ers

Took: Joel Embiid, Dario Saric, KJ McDaniels, Jerami Grant, Russ Smith, Vasilije Micic

Draft grade: B

You picked two guys who won’t be able to play in the first round but take those who can in the second round? That’s weird. However, I like KJ McDaniels to benefit from MCW passes. Jerami Grant would be an energy guy in the Thaddeus Young mold and Russdiculous Smith was reported to be on his way to New Orleans for Pierre Jackson. Embiid remains the onus here. I hope he doesn’t break like Oden. It would be Block City with Noel up front.

Orlando Magic

Took: Aaron Gordon, Elfrid Payton, Roy-Devyn Marble

Draft grade: A+

Magic get their PF and PG for the long-term future. Payton and Gordon would provide immediately in the Magic’s roster holes. This ends the Victor Oladipo the PG experiment.

Utah Jazz

Took: Dante Exum, Rodney Hood

You need: A

Jazz addresses their needs for a bigger back court and a swing man who can score in bunches. Exum would make for an intriguing pair with Trey Burke or Alec Burks. Hood will tee off from the bench similar to what Gordon Hayward provides.

Boston Celtics

Took: Marcus Smart, James Young, Louis Labeyrie

Draft grade: B+

They took the best PG prospect available and a young talented shooting guard in the process. This could be the future for Boston along with Kelly Olynyk and Jared Sullinger.

Los Angeles Lakers

Took: Julius Randle, Jordan Clarkson

Draft grade: A

Randle is who the doctor ordered for the Lakers. He gives them an immediate paint presence who averaged 17 and 12 in his lone collegiate year. The kid has a high motor and is relentless chasing shots and rebounds. Clarkson is way better than Jordan Farmar so the Lakers definitely win this year’s draft.

Sacramento Kings

Took: Nik Stauskas

Draft grade: B

This will create a logjam at the SG spot with Ben McLemore. Think Jimmer Fredette, but better.

Charlotte Hornets

Took: Noah Vonleh, PJ Hairston, Semaj Christon, Dwight Powell

Draft grade: B

Hornets lock in a floor-spacing big man who is still in his teens and grow up pretty well. PJ Hairston gives them a secondary ball handler who can shoot it and create. Christon would be nice to add as a back up and Powell should be better than Bismack Biyombo.

Denver Nuggets

Took: Jusuf Nurkic, Gary Harris, Nikola Jokic

You need: A

They traded down but seems to have won it. Nurkic would be a bad-ass with Timofey Mozgov up front while Gary Harris will be a solid defender at either guard spots.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Took: Zach LaVine, Glen Robinson III, Alessandro Gentile

Draft grade: B

LaVine, an explosive athlete, didn’t look like he wanted to be in ‘Sota. Glen Robinson III will provide athleticism and range to a shaky back court who couldn’t jump.

Phoenix Suns

Took: TJ Warren, Tyler Ennis, Bojan Bogdanovic

You need: B

Warren can flat out score. Ennis was great as a Freshman. Ultimately, this is the perfect marriage for both. Bogdanovic comes in as a question mark to be stashed in Europe.

Atlanta Hawks

Took: Adreian Payne, Walter Tavares

Draft grade: A

Hawks get what they want in Payne: floor spacing-rebound eating big man. Tavares could be stashed somewhere seeing that he needs time to develop. However, the Hawks seemed to figure out that Al Horford is suited best as a four rather than a five.

Chicago Bulls

Took: Doug McDermott, Cameron Bairstow

Draft grade: B+

The Bulls traded away Gary Harris and Jusuf Nurkic by extension to the Nugs for Doug McBuckets. If there’s one thing the Bulls aren’t good at, it’s getting buckets.

Toronto Raptors

Took: Bruno Caboclo, DeAndre Daniels

Draft grade: B

Caboclo was a surprise, and I am putting that out there mildly. DeAndre Daniels is a nice find during the second round, giving the Raps a three they can use right away.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Took: Mitch McGary, Josh Huestis

Draft grade: B

This is basically Nick Collison 2.0 and Thabo Sefolosha 2.0. However, McGary has some offensive upside that can make him chief back up to Serge Ibaka. This marks a move that yes, Kendrick Perkins will be glued somewhere to the bench.

Memphis Grizzlies

Took: Jordan Adams, Jarnell Stokes

Draft grade: B

Adams provides shooting for the Memphis Grizzlies who need this badly. Stokes’s presence makes sure there is no steep drop off from Zach Randolph’s production. If Randolph stays.

Golden State Warriors

Took: None

Draft grade: N/A

Portland Trailblazers

Took: None

Draft grade: N/A

Houston Rockets

Took: Nick Johnson, Clint Capella

Draft grade: B+

The Nick Johnson pick is a steal. He’s an upgrade over Patrick Beverley offensively, and Jeremy Lin. He can take care of the ball while scoring at the same time. Capella will need some time to figure it out but with Kevin McHale, you bet your dollar he’ll be good someday.

Miami Heat

Took: Shabazz Napier

Draft grade: A-

Goodbye Mario Chalmers. Bazz gets drafted at 24 and will still be starting for the Heat come October.

Los Angeles Clippers

Took: CJ Wilcox

Draft grade: C+

JJ Reddick and Jamal Crawford aren’t getting younger. Wilcox will come in and put the ball through the hoop because that’s his strength.

San Antonio Spurs

Took: Kyle Anderson

Draft grade: A

Anderson is listed as a SF. But he plays like a PG. Spurs get somebody like Boris Diaw and take note Anderson was the only player in the last 30 years to average 14, 8, and 6. He’ll be a champion with the Spurs.

Indiana Pacers

Took: None

Draft grade: N/A

Brooklyn Nets

Took: Markel Brown, Cory Jefferson, Xavier Thames

Draft grade: C+

This is a miracle. The Nets never had any picks. Yet here they are stealing Cory Jefferson and Markel Brown.

New York Knicks

Took: Cleanthon Early

Draft grade: B

This is a steal for Phil Jax. Early was the engine of the Wichita State Shockers during the last March Madness. He can score and score as well as anybody.

Washington Wizards

Took: None

Draft grade: N/A

Dallas Mavericks

Took: None

Draft grade: N/A

Detroit Pistons

Took: Spencer Dinwiddie

You need: B

Dinwiddie would’ve been drafted higher if not for a season-ending injury in his last season at Colorado.

New Orleans Pelicans

Took: None

Draft grade: N/A
