Kevin Love to Gilas Pilipinas on FIBA World Cup stint: 'Enjoy it'

Recent Manila visitor Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves had nothing but kind words for Gilas Pilipinas in its quest for a decent finish in the 2014 World Cup in Spain this August.

The 6'10 Love encouraged the Nationals to have fun playing in the quadrennial tournament that pits the world’s best basketball players.

"Enjoy it. Take it all in. It’s going to be a great ride. Basketball is a beautiful game so just go out there and enjoy it. At the end of the day, we’re all just putting the ball through a hoop and it’s a lot of fun doing it," Love said.

The NBA will be well represented in the meet. Leading the charge for host Spain will be brothers Pau and Marc Gasol, Ricky Rubio, Jose Calderon among others. Argentina, which is grouped with the Philippines, will be bannered by Manu Ginobili and Luis Scola.

Love came to the Philippines to grace the Master Game Face All-Star Basketball Challenge Year 2 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The event featured PBA, UAAP and NCAA players all putting their oil-free game faces on for the much anticipated all-star match which saw hardcourt heartthrobs and Master brand ambassadors Chris Tiu and Marc Pingris going all out to coach their respective teams.

Oozing with confidence, Team Chris dominated Pingris’ team via a convincing 135-110 win. Greg Slaughter was awarded the MVP trophy for garnering 27 points, highlighted by 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the 3-point arc.

Love,  who easily captured the hearts of local basketball fans when he got his oil-free game face on, thrilled the crowd with a display of his deadly accuracy from long range during the 3-point shootout, which Team Chris won. The 2012 NBA 3-point shootout champion also nailed a half-court shot at 1:08 to win the post game Shooting Stars challenge.

While in the country, the six-year NBA veteran held a basketball skills clinic among 60 kids of the Manila Boys Town. Kevin Love was accompanied by Chris Tiu who demonstrated to the youngsters proper facial grooming through Master Facial Care products, to always keep their oil-free game faces on.

The 6-foot-10 NBA power forward also led a charity auction at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati to raise funds for the refurbishing of a basketball court inside the Manila Boys Town complex. Auctioned items included autographed jerseys, shoes, basketballs and merchandise from Love, Tiu and Pingris.

Spotted during the auction were basketball stars Marc Pingris, Gary David, Jeric and Jeron Teng, JC Intal, Arnold Van Opstal, celebrity moms Tweetie de Leon and Danica Sotto, TV personalities TJ Manotoc, Boyet Sison and JinnoRufino, Atty. Jose Midas Marquez, and other basketball aficionados.
